"....showing of grace to someone else, at your own expense."
Establishing a relationship with God is another step in the right direction, but the journey doesn't stop there.  What we find in the body of believers are many that have a relationship with God, but have not made God, GOD above everything in their lives.

Usually the life of one who knows God  and is relationship with Him, lives a life (and holds conversations) that resemble God.  But the biggest obstacle to a person of this sort is "self".  They probably don't smoke, don't drink and don't cuss, but self desires often take priority over Gods desires.

It's the fine tuning, the little things that reflect that God is GOD in someone's life.  Its the giving in, when you rightfully shouldn't have to.  It's the showing of grace to someone else, at your own expense.  It is in fact, laying down your life (self) for the sake of others.

God has a plan for everyone's life.  But, until we lay down our own desires God has not yet been made GOD in our life.  For me, what helps keep myself in check, is to consider how short life is compared to eternity.... And, if God is a good steward of His resources (you and I) my purpose in Him has got to be greater than me.

We are His children, to be used by Him to positively reach our brothers and sisters to bring them back into the fold.  This is why Jesus responded when asked , "What is the greatest law?".  He said, "Love God......, and love your neighbor (those you interact with)."  He didn't say, "Love Yourself,"  because it is human nature to naturally try to do what is best for yourself.  But, when God is GOD, I will put God and others before myself.

Jesus washed his disciples feet, and said, "If  I, your master, wash your feet... do the same for each other."  Many churches used to have "foot washings." Amen.setstats1
